Many have received offers and secured places in some of the top universities in the world. Among them are Lai Dee Loon who received an offer to pursue Engineering in the University of Cambridge, Saheb Singh with an offer to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics in the University of Warwick and Nur Aina Muhammad Naim who secured a place at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia.

19 year-old Lai from Klang, shared that securing a place in the University of Cambridge is his biggest achievement which he has longed for since Form 5. “When I was in Form 5, I decided that going into Cambridge will be my highest achievement in my life and since then, I worked hard for it,” said Lai, who also volunteered to teach Myanmar refugees during his studies in Sunway College.

Saheb who scored 3As in Economics, Mathematics and Accounting, was inspired by Kaveena Maniam to study hard during his A-Levels in Sunway College. Kaveena Maniam was a top student who scored 15As in the 2009 SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) examination. Saheb, who is interested in politics, shared his original plan was to pursue his studies in the London School of Economics. He, however, is happy to have secured a place in the University of Warwick as it is also one of the top universities in the world. The 19 year-old already made plans to specialise in philosophy and economics during his final years.

JPA (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam) bursary scholar Nur Aina shared that she received an offer from Imperial College London. However, she might be pursuing her studies at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia, due to financial constraints. She also advised A-Level students to, “stay focus in class, then you will have a better understanding of the subject and perform well in exams.” Nur Aina scored straight As in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Her mother, Sabariah Mohd Zain is very proud of her daughter’s achievement.
Present for the June 2016 A-Level tea party was Cheng Mien Wee, Director of Pre-University Studies, Sunway College and Executive Director of Sunway International School; and Ruth Cheah Kah Yok, Director of A-Level Programme, Sunway College. In her speech, Cheng congratulated the cohort for their excellent achievements. She stressed that it is important for students who received offers from top universities such as the University of Oxford or University of Cambridge, to know that these offers affirm what they can do and achieve. She explained that it does not matter if they accepted the offer or not, but more importantly, it is about knowing the options open to them.

She informed all at the tea party that 9 students received offers to go to the University of Oxford and University of Cambridge. Over the years, students of the Sunway College A-Level programme have successfully entered to universities worldwide, including top-tiered universities like the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Harvard University, Imperial College London and the London School of Economics.
