Among those present were Henry Lee Min Rong, who scored 4 A*s in Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Articulate and cheerful, Henry is pleased to have been offered a place in Jesus College, University of Oxford to study Mechanical Engineering in October. “A-level was arguably the fast track to top universities. My experience at Sunway College has been truly challenging as it involves a lot of self-motivation and independent study in a university campus setting that is different from high school,” said Lee.

Chan Kim Thai, mother of Wong Jia Wei, who scored 3 A*s in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, was not only proud of her son’s consistent academic achievements, but also grateful to watch him grow tremendously as a person at Sunway College. “He was very shy, but after joining Sunway College, he was actively involved in Sunway’s Toastmasters club. He is now much more independent, outspoken and confident. I believe the study environment at Sunway has been encouraging for my son. Sunway’s A-level lecturers have been helpful for which I am thankful. They went extra miles for their students, like setting up a Whatsapp group for students to ask questions and replying them late at night when nearer to exams,” said Chan.
Liew ZiQing and Fiona Tay, the returning Sunway College’s A-level alumni who had been through a similar tea party a year ago, were there to share their experience with the new A-level top scorers. Liew, who has completed his first year in Engineering at University of Cambridge, is currently a Human Resource intern at Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd. Reminiscing his A-level experience, Liew said “What I’ve learnt from Sunway shapes my way of learning and remains effective to my studies today at Cambridge.”
In addition to Liew, Tay, and Lee, Sunway A-level students have successfully gained admission into many world class universities, such as Cambridge, Oxford, the London School of Economics, Imperial University College London, Harvard, MIT, NUS, NTU, the University of Hong Kong, the University of Melbourne and the Australian National University to name a few.
The Cambridge GCE A-level Programme is one of the pre-university programmes offered at Sunway College for more than two decades. Tea parties as such have been held over the years celebrating students’ excellent results. They are solid testimonies of Sunway College, one of only three centres nationwide to be accorded the elite status of a Fellowship Centre for producing consistent and excellent results in the biannual examinations.
