Triple-A Celebration

“At Sunway, we are not just focused on exams. We pride ourselves in providing an all-round experience for our students. Education is much more than a mechanistic process which achieves its highest state with the maximisation of academic performance. Exam success is necessary but not a sufficient condition for being an educated human being. As human beings, we are not machines but flesh and blood, with capacious minds, with bodies, with emotions, and with a soul.

A focus merely on exams can all too easily lead to closed minds and leave the heart cold. A focus on character seeks to open their hearts and open their minds. The development of good character is important because good character strengths are a great predictor of success in university and in life,” said Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group.

In a glittering celebration of the Cambridge A-Level Awards and Achievements Ceremony, also known as the Triple-A Ceremony, 633 graduates received their certificates and awards. Themed Living That Dream! the ceremony saw the winners of the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards November 2013 Exam Session; Chester Gan Ming Shern, Teh Jia Wei and Toh Kai Ying for Top in the World in Mathematics respectively, and Micah See Siou-Yong in Thinking Skills for Top in Malaysia receiving their awards from Ng Kim Huat, Cambridge Senior Schools Development Manager, Malaysia.

Many of the graduates have received offers to continue studies in some of the top universities of the world, among them was Lee Min Rong who has successfully secured a place in the University of Oxford to pursue Mechanical Engineering. Two of A-Level alumni, Vipul Agarwal and Ng Jie Yi will be heading to University of Cambridge this coming September to take up Chemical Engineering and Veterinary Medicine respectively.

In the November 2013 Cambridge A-Level examinations, Sunway students obtained a pass rate of 100% with 57% scoring straight As, the best ever results for the examinations since 1994. The A-Level programme in Sunway College has groomed numerous cohorts of students who have benefitted from the strong academic grounding and nurtured a high number of Top in the World and Top in Malaysia achiever awards in the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) consistently over the years.
