Making a Difference

“I believe that as you have voluntarily signed up for a rigorous programme such as this, it has shown and proven that you are all committed individuals, practical and versatile self-starters with the ability to achieve results independently and as team players. For your two-year TFM programme, you have been placed in high-need schools and the eight-week intensive teacher training and leadership development course would have provided you with the experience to be future leaders, your attributes would include the ability to relate quickly and positively to complex problems or situations, and resolve them with innovative decisive actions.

All these are important skills and competencies that organisations look for when hiring candidates. If you look forward to join Sunway as a teacher or lecturer, such are the attributes one should possess, this should include a passion for teaching and a strong desire in making a difference to the education industry in this country” said Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of the Sunway Education Group in addressing the Teach For Malaysia (TFM) Fellows at their recent Future Impact Day.

Future Impact Day was a platform for second year Teach For Malaysia Fellows to showcase the key learnings from their Fellowship to invited representatives from various organizations to foster closer collaboration. Future Impact Day was a precursor to connect_ed, a forum for educators from across the country to come together to innovate, collaborate, and synergise around the key question: “What will it take for all children in Malaysia to have the opportunity to attain an excellent education?”

Since 2012, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has been supporting TFM as a corporate sponsor in a corporate partnership agreement by sponsoring RM150,000 to assist the organisation. The partnership aims to help realise TFM’s mission to narrow the gap between rural and urban schools and to combat education inequity.
