SUNWAY EDUCATION GROUP CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF TRAILBLAZING EDUCATION WITH GALA DINNER

Bandar Sunway, 10 October 2012 – The Sunway Education Group (“SEG”) celebrated its 25th Silver Jubilee Anniversary recently with a Silver Jubilee Gala Dinner attended by 1,280 staff, students and alumni of the Sunway Education Group. The dinner was the culmination of a number of events organised by SEG throughout the year. The dinner also heralded the Sunway Education Expo (“SEE”) 2012, a signature event for the anniversary which was held the next two days on 6 and 7 October.

The celebratory dinner was graced by Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, AO, Founder and Chairman of the Sunway Education Group and Founding Trustee of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, which governs the entities within the Sunway Education Group.

Held at the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa the celebratory dinner was an opportunity for attendees to commemorate their journey with the Sunway Education Group as well as celebrate the Group’s successes over the past 25 years. The dinner was also attended by Sunway University and Sunway College alumni who, since graduating, have gone on to realise successes in their respective careers. Individuals such as Sarena Cheah, George Ang, Kid Chan, Xandria Ooi, Reshmonu, Lenny Chiah among others were present, showing support for their alma mater and recognizing the significant role it played in shaping their lives. A special presentation that honoured the ’25 Stars of Sunway’ highlighted their contributions in the field of business, the Arts, entertainment and social entrepreneurship to the community.

“For more than two decades, Sunway has nurtured countless young minds who have gone on to achieve great things. I am proud to see our alumni, many of whom have benefitted from the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, become successful, contributing members of society. As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary, I am pleased to be able to reaffirm our commitment to continue to shape the education landscape in Malaysia, equipping our youths with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in life,” said Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, AO.

Guests were kept entertained throughout the night with various performances by current students including the Sunway University Ensemble, the Sunway Dance Club and Botswana international students. Various awards were also presented to long-serving staff of the Sunway University, Sunway College and Monash University Sunway campus during the evening which included 10 and 20 Year Awards and a Research Award was awarded to Dr Grace Lim Soo Yong of Sunway University.

The Sunway Education Group’s 25th Anniversary marks a landmark milestone since its inception as Sunway College in 1987. Since its humble beginnings, the Group has sustained tremendous growth, and today is a 12-member education group including Sunway College, Sunway University, the joint-venture partnership branch campus of Monash University in Malaysia, Sunway International School, Sunway Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts and branches of Sunway College all over the nation. The Group has successfully created one of the finest educational experiences in Malaysia and the region and is synonymous with delivering quality education.

Activities organised to celebrate this year’s 25th Anniversary have been unified by a vision to support and encourage effective teaching and learning philosophies, as well as nurture an environment where people can be inspired to make a positive change in the world.

The Sunway Education Group’s signature 25th Anniversary event, the inaugural Sunway Education Expo 2012 on 6 and 7 October, presented in the style of TED talks, allowed students and the general public to listen to and engage with inspirational icons and leaders in the areas of business, science, technology, languages, fashion. The event had the theme “Inspiring Hearts and Minds”, which embodies the aspiration of the Sunway Education Group’s Founder to continually push the boundaries of learning and education.
