A Harvard Collection in Sunway Campus

The Tun Hussein Onn Library (THOL), one of the largest private academic libraries in Malaysia located within Sunway Campus, saw the launch of a new collection titled, “A Harvard Collection”. This collection gives prominence to a distinct research collection that is aimed to support the teaching and research needs of the academic institution.

Initiated by Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Lin See-Yan, President of the Harvard Club of Malaysia on 22 September 2011, the Harvard Collection was established with a grant of RM 200,000 from the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Kelab Harvard Malaysia and RM 50,000 from the Yayasan Program Pertukaran Fellowship Perdana Menteri Malaysia.

The donations were made in parts, RM 75,000 in year 2010, RM 100,000 in year 2011 and another RM 25,000 which will be contributed this year. The monies will be used to upgrade the collection from time to time to provide a better range of publications to aid existing students with extra learning and reference materials. The Board of Trustees of Yayasan Kelab Harvard Malaysia will consider further contributions to upgrade the collections from year 2013 onwards.

The Harvard Collection comprises of Harvard University publications, resources, case studies and videos as well as publications of its illustrious alumni. Popular and influential titles include business books published by the Harvard Business School. The collection is equipped with 973 titles and 996 volumes that will continue to grow in the future. Sunway students and staff have benefited from the collection since April 2011 where a total loan of 472 items was made up to-date.

The Harvard Collection together with the Tun Hussein Onn Library will move to the new 12-story building which will be completed in 2014. THOL’s new home will occupy three levels and consist of a large 24-hour study area, group project rooms, group and individual study areas, a coffee breakout area, over 1,100 seats, instructional lab, audiovisual viewing facilities, and state-of-the-art technology to support the academic needs of the campus community.
