A night to celebrate Sunway’s pre-university graduates

“The most gratifying moment of our teaching profession is when we witness a group of young people completing their academic year after all the hard work and perseverance they put in”, said Ms Elizabeth Lee, Executive Director of Sunway University during the AUSMAT Awards Night. Three of Sunway’s Pre-University programmes commemorated the success and accomplishments of their graduating students from Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT), Foundation in Arts (FIA) and Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) recently.

The high achievers; Yeoh Zi Yi from AUSMAT, Ng Jia Wei from MUFY and Nicholas Ling Jern Whey from FIA were awarded for being the highest scorers in their respectable programmes. 355 students from AUSMAT, 320 students from MUFY and 58 students from FIA successfully completed their programme and received their certificate of completion. The ceremony also awarded the highest scorers in individual subjects of each programme as well as students who qualified for Sunway scholarships.

Yeoh Zi Yi, who was the highest achiever in AUSMAT, was also awarded the Special Certificate of Distinction for Mathematics in the top 0.5% of candidates in the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) recently. He said “AUSMAT in Sunway is really lively compared to the Malaysian Secondary Education system. We are taught to speak up and this benefits the students in many areas especially in the future”.

Class valedictorian, Vidhya Sathyamoorthy said “Besides the academic side, MUFY gave us students a chance to unwind and take a break from our daily routines through extra-curricular events. We’ve attained priceless skills such as communication skills, the art of becoming a team player, time management and so much more. This shows with MUFY, learning is not confined to the classroom”.

The FIA is a home-grown programme developed by Sunway that serves as a pathway to the Sunway Lancaster validated undergraduate programmes. Sunway also offers other pre-university programmes such as the Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP) and the GCE A-Levels.
