Sunway College’s FIA Students Unleashed their Creativity

28 groups of Foundation in Arts (FIA) students unleashed their creativity over two days of exhibition at Sunway College to create awareness among their peers of what our society has become.

Themed “Consumerism and Human Rights Awareness”, the students decorated their booths, invited and persuaded the public to sign their respective mock petitions based on various topics as part of their assignment to educate the public on human rights to reduce the impact of consumerism for a better world. Their exhibition encompassed issues of recycling used items, privacy rights, children’s education rights, human trafficking and child labour through the use of posters, handmade recycled products, videos and props.

Sunway Hosts 2-Day Cambridge International Exams Training

“I am proud and honoured to be here today for as an educator myself, I understand that a student’s educational journey is a crucial period, and because of this, it is vital that as academics who are entrusted with the task of building future leaders should constantly update ourselves with the latest developments in pedagogy, to be aware of the changing emphasis within the education arena, both on the local and global front. It is hoped that through today’s training sessions you will become more confident, reflective, innovative and engaging in your classrooms. More importantly, I trust you will inspire each other to excel further in your profession,” said Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group and Sunway University in her welcome address to A Level teachers.

Sunway College’s largest A-level Tea Party

Sunway College’s A-level Tea Party has become a biannual event as its students have been constantly achieving straight As in almost every Cambridge A-level examinations in recent years. In the November 2014 Cambridge A-level examinations, students achieved a 100 percent pass rate with 64 percent obtaining straight As, making the recently held tea party substantially the largest celebration so far with 200 straight As high achievers.

Among those present were the 35 Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards (OCLA) winners for their excellent performance in the June 2014 Cambridge examination series. 30 of them received Top in the World, 4 Top in Malaysia and 1 Best across Three Cambridge International A-levels Awards.

Sunway College Victoria University promotes active teaching and learning

Sunway College Victoria University (VU) recently organised its 1st Teaching & Learning Forum which brought together educators from Sunway College, Sunway University, Sunway International School and other institutions across Malaysia and Australia to share ideas, knowledge and experience for excellence in teaching.

Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway University and Sunway Education Group was impressed with the inaugural forum. “Having seen an awesome celebration of 20 years partnership between Sunway College VU and VU Melbourne, I am very pleased and thankful to Sunway College VU for coming up with this forum. Teaching and learning are what students come to us for and Sunway, as a young institution, we have to be good at research, to step up and meet our students’ demands,” said Dr Lee.

Sunway College’s AUSMAT students top the charts of BEWA and WACE

Three Australian Matriculation Programme (AUSMAT) students from Sunway College have proven to possess strong business acumen as Khoo Yu Wen, Lee Chia Ying, Leong Wei-Xiang and Yap Yi Shin obtained distinction in the 2014 Business Educators of Western Australia (BEWA) Accounting competition. Yap came second highest in the world ranking, placing her at the forefront of the competition.

BEWA Accounting competition is an examination based competition designed to help students revise their accounting subject of the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) examinations, the set of final examinations for AUSMAT students whereby its qualification is equivalent to Australian Year 12, pre-university level. The results of the competition highlight areas in the subject that require students’ extra focus and attention.

Sunway College & VU Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Sunway College celebrated its 20th year of partnership with Victoria University (VU) of Australia recently at a grand gala dinner at the Sunway Lagoon Resort & Spa.

Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, AO, Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group and Sunway College and his wife, Puan Sri Dr Susan Cheah, member of the board of directors of Sunway Education Group, who are alumni of VU were present at the gala dinner.

Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah was instrumental in establishing a partnership between Sunway College and VU in 1987. Sunway College is one of the education pioneers offering twinning programmes in Malaysia. The VU Bachelor of Business degree programme is the longest standing twinning programme in the country.
