Sunway Education Group Open Day March 2017

The recent Sunway Education Open Day held on 11, 12, 18, 19 March saw many SPM school leavers coming to find out their options after SPM. It was an excellent platform for students & parents who wanted to know more about courses/programmes prior to enrolment, or wanted to check out the campus and facilities. Lecturers and academic staff were on hand to provide information and advice, while current students shared their experiences with prospective students.

Sunway Students Host Inaugural Fashion Show

Sunway University Student Council in partnership with Sunway College Student Council hosted its first student-run fashion show ‘Lumière: Fashion Night 2017’ showcase student talent and creativity. Themed “Cities”, the catwalk event aims to provide a platform to a plethora of students who has interests, aspirations and ambitions in the fashion industry; be it a fashion designer, model or fashion runway event organiser.

On-Campus Interview Day

On-Campus Interview Day is one of the successful initiatives from the Sunway Career Services to increase the job matching opportunities between Sunway graduating students with the employers.

Sunway Education Group Takes Home Two Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards

The Sunway Education Group (SEG) took home 2 awards at this year’s Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2016. The Group received the Product and Service Excellence Award, and the CSR Excellence Award for the second year running.

Sunway Education Group’s Elizabeth Lee Conferred Second Honorary Doctorate

Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of the Sunway Education Group and Sunway University was recently conferred Doctorate of the University, honoris causa by the Council and Senate of Victoria University, Australia in recognition of Elizabeth’s role as a distinguished educator, for her work in promoting international education and issues relating to the education of women. The award also recognises her pivotal role in fostering the partnership between Victoria University (VU) and the Sunway Education Group.

Dr Lee received the award from George Pappas, VU Chancellor at VU’s largest ever graduation ceremony in Malaysia with 421 graduates. This year’s ceremony at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa is an important one as it coincides with VU’s centenary celebrations on the founding of VU’s predecessor, the Footscray Technical School, in February 1916.

Masters of Code in Silicon Valley

From the winning project ‘One Small Step’ to ‘MoneyRemaid’, the Malaysian team who emerged as the regional champion in Singapore in early 2015 was recently crowned champions of MasterCard’s Inaugural Masters of Code Global Hackathon Series in Silicon Valley, U.S. Two of the Masters of Code were graduates of Sunway University and Sunway College.

The team of five comprised of Leonardy Kristianto, Lim Jay Ching, Wong Gwen Yi, Daniel Lim Fung Hsing, and Chew Kean Ho. Leonardy, 20, recently graduated from Sunway University’s BSc (Hons) Information Technology while Jay, 19, graduated from Sunway College’s A-Level in July 2014. They could not stop being in awe of their enormous victory at the Grand Finale held on December 5 – 6 in San Francisco, California.

Thank You Teachers!

Sunway University recently celebrated Rainbow themed Teaching Appreciation Day to commemorate the dedication of its academic staff members who have contributed in influencing, nurturing and developing the lives of its students.

The day involved a short award ceremony of recognising and awarding 46 academic staff members, where 20 Outstanding Teaching Performance Award recipients are from Sunway University and 16 from Sunway College. They were selected based on recommendations from heads of departments and student evaluation surveys for academic year 2014-2015.

Sunway Education Group bridges the generation gap

“As parents and guardians, we would want to bring out the best in our child, in all aspects of learning, in school and at every stage of their learning journey in the hope that we can create a better future together,” said Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway University and Sunway Education Group at the start of the Sunway Parent Conference 2015.

In support of parents or guardians in their parenting challenges in the 21st century, Sunway Education Group’s Student Services Department organised the one-day conference, themed “Bridging the Generation Gap”.

Sunway Education Group and Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Donates RM50,000 to KPM

In view of the recent floods, described as one of the worst in our country’s history the Sunway Education Group and the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation donated RM50,000 to the “Tabung Bantuan Banjir Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM)”. Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group and Sunway University, presented the cheque to Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh, Education and Higher Learning Minister II at Putrajaya last week.
