I-Care Run

This year, AUSMAT Sunway organised its first ever charity run in commemoration of its 30 years of excellence in Sunway College. More than 600 AUSMAT students participated as runners as well as served as volunteers in various areas such as first aid, photography, route marshal, registration and bazaar style booth sales. All profits raised from this event will be donated to Yayasan Generasi Gemilang, a foundation which aims to improve the lives of under-served children and families by increasing access to quality education. The funds will be channelled to its current Community Centre located in Taman Prima Selayang, to cater for children who wants a more conducive learning environment to study.

This is what Riana Yam, the Partnership Lead of the foundation said: “In our many years with this community, we discovered that many of the children in this community might not have a conducive environment for education learning due to the lack of basic physical facilities in their homes whilst some might be go through domestic issues within their families. So we felt the move is now right for us to do start creating a suitable studying space for them. The funds will help in maintenance of the hall including having at least 2 caretakers from the community who will oversee the place. And in this sense, we are also providing them with empowerment as this employment opportunity will give them a sense of ownership of their own community. The hall will be equipped accordingly with proper lighting , ventilation and materials for them if they want to come and get their homework done or have study groups or to come read for enjoyment.”
