A total of 72 students, from nine schools participated in this event. All participants were grouped in teams of four members each. The nine schools sent in two teams per school.
The VU Business Challenge was designed to test the students on their intellect, logic and problem solving skills and provide exposure to various aspects of business and management. Participants were required to complete an academic test, a business project and the VU Race. While the academic test evaluated the participants’ knowledge on various aspects of business and general knowledge, the “VU Race” required team members to have effective communication as well as time-management skills. The business project encouraged critical thinking in a challenging business situation.

The panel of interviewers evaluated the five finalists based on their responses to questions posed to them. These questions covered current, general aspects including political, environmental, social and financial issues. The five finalists were assessed on their language proficiency, relevance and depth of their responses and their department.
Greeja Hemalata De Silva, Head of the AUP said, “It was a testing experience for the finalists to be interviewed in front of such a large crowd, comprising of their peers, teachers and the Sunway organising team , but a few managed to be entertaining with their humorous responses. In view of the success of this inaugural event, I hope the “VU Business Challenge 2014” will be bigger next year.”
