Sunway wins 2nd place in MOHE’s Web Portal Competition

Sunway University was recently awarded 2nd place in the 2010 Web Portal Competition organized by Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). With an increase from 62% (3 stars) in 2009 to 72% (4 Stars) in 2010, Sunway University beat 36 other institutions under the IPTS (University College and Private Universities) category. The competition was held from the 22 to 26 June 2010 in Bayview Hotel, Melaka.

The Web Portal Competition was established in 2007 and has since been conducted annually. The competition evaluates web portals from all institutions under the MOHE in which 6 categories have been established. 38 institutions participated in the competition under the IPTS category.

The purpose of this competition was to improve the quality of the web content, information and the effectiveness of the web portals to match what is in line with the government’s requirements. The MOHE also wishes to foster a healthy competitive culture amongst the different institutions. MOHE also yearns for websites to serve as an alternative medium of service and information provider for the public. The Ministry hopes to foster and honour the creativity and innovative individuals behind the design and concept of the websites.

The web portals were evaluated based on the Technicality and Layout and Design. The evaluation for technicality was based on the effectiveness of the Citizen Interaction, Citizen Insight Generation, Citizen Services, Citizen Support and Content Management whereas Layout and Design paid attention to Page Layout, Colour and Graphics, Multimedia Content and Presentation.

Sunway Education Group is honoured to receive such an accolade especially since there were many requirements by MOHE that needed to be fulfilled. We hope to maintain if not improve the quality of our website to better serve the public as a reliable medium of information.
