Sunway University Student Council in partnership with Sunway College Student Council hosted its first student-run fashion show ‘Lumière: Fashion Night 2017’ showcase student talent and creativity. Themed “Cities”, the catwalk event aims to provide a platform to a plethora of students who has interests, aspirations and ambitions in the fashion industry; be it a fashion designer, model or fashion runway event organiser.

Due to the lack of opportunities for Sunway students to showcase their talents in this aspect, the Student Councils has stepped up to facilitate the event to portray students’ talents and skills through the presentation of their extensive collection of haute couture garments in the limelight.

Students from other institution including The One Academy and Saito College were invited to participate in the competition. At the semi-final stage, a total of 20 students competed till 9 finalist emerged. Kristopher Toon Wei Kit from Saito College triumph as the Champion; winning with RM1500 in cash; Tung Wen Hau from The One Academy was declared as the 1st Runner-Up, walking off with RM1000 in cash; while Lim Shaun Ren from The One Academy bagged home the 2nd Runner-Up title and RM500 in cash. On top of that, the winners received a bag from Braun Büffel and a watch from Project Woodworks each.

Kristopher’s design title “Unexpectedly” was inspired by the designs of a clown, depicting the inside-clown in the hearts of people in his fresh array of costumes. Tung’s attires focus on creativity from a peacock’s tail, origami and the casualness of a shirt when a formal coat is removed. Meanwhile, Lim’s apparels sparked from the idea of the city of Venice in Italy; rendering from the city’s history, culture and bright colours.

The fashion show was graced with the presence of Puan Sri Dr Susan Cheah, Exco Member of Sunway Group, and commenced with an opening speech by Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group and Sunway University. The judges for the night were Augustine Wong, Head of the Department of Art & Design at Sunway University; Alexandrea Yeo, the 1st Runner-Up of Project Runway Malaysia; and Professor David Knight, a Fellow at the Royal Society of Arts.

The event received positive respond from the public, with 300 spectators turned up for the night.
