12 of Sunway College’s A-Level students who recently graduated will be heading to pursue their dreams in their preferred universities in United Kingdom (UK) and Hong Kong. The students who persevered and overcame the challenges of this premier pre-university programme will be embarking on a new journey to acquire the needed knowledge to fulfil their ambitions in their favoured field of study.

Among them are Tan Juan and Gan Fang Wen who will both be heading to Cambridge to read Medicine. In regards to the Sunway A-Level programme, Gan said, “ The A-level programme is distinct from the other pre-university programmes as it involved more reading, more studying and a more attentive attitude from students who choose to pursue this pathway. A lot is covered in one classroom sitting and if your attendance is weak, you will need to double the effort in order to catch up”.

Gan felt she has come a long way because of her dedicated teachers. She recalls her chemistry teacher as someone who knows how to deliver, knows her student’s strengths and weaknesses and knows how to coordinate well. “The mentor-mentee system was truly helpful in helping and guiding students in their applications to their preferred universities’, she added.

The 12 students are prepared to embark on a new journey in United Kingdom and Hong Kong.

Tan Juan who was class valedictorian for the A-Level Graduation ceremony and highest achiever for Mathematics for the January/ March 2010 shared, “I was heavily influenced by my parents to pursue Medicine. My father is an Anaesthetist in Sunway Medical Centre while my mother is a Nurse. I grew up in an environment where the interest in medicine was emphasised and in turn developed a passion for it”.
