Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group and Sunway University recently received the Visionary Women Leadership Award at the 2nd World Women Leadership Congress & Award (WWLCA) in Mumbai. The Award is conferred to the "Outstanding Women Professionals who have the vision, flair, acumen and professionalism to demonstrate excellent leadership and management skills in an organization, making changes and achieving results".

Each year the WWLC honours influential women leaders in various private and public sectors who have played an important role in the development of modern economy, technology and administrative methodologies, promoting the advancement of government and business organisations at global standards.

In her acceptance speech Dr Lee focused on three points in her message to the women in general. She states that we should go back to basics - the purpose we are all here and our role here in this life. Secondly, she stated that we all come from a family. Therefore one should never forget about family as they are the ones who will stand by us at all times. And our legacy, what we would like to leave behind. “I chose my legacy in education. For I find that to make the world a better place, it is through education,” said Dr Lee.

Dr Lee joins Dr Massouda Jalal, Former Minister of Women, Founding Chairperson, Jalal Foundation; Jyoti Chopra, Managing Director, Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion, BNY Mellon; Nosizwe Nokwe-Macamo, President & Group CEO, PetroSA (The Petroleum Oil and Gas Corporation of South Africa (SOC) Ltd) to be amongst those who have received the award.

Just last year, Dr Lee was conferred her honorary doctorate by the Council and the Senate of University of Nottingham, United Kingdom in recognition of her contributions to education in Malaysia. Each year the world-class University of Nottingham, ranked in the top 1 per cent of all universities worldwide bestows honorary degrees to a small select number of individuals who have achieved outstanding success and distinction in their chosen fields.

Dr Lee, a prominent member of Malaysia’s education industry, serves on various significant committees which are tasked by the Malaysian Government to chart the direction, strategies, and policies for higher education.
