MUFY @ SUNWAY COLLEGE KL SOAR!

Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) at Sunway College Kuala Lumpur saw close to 500 students graduating in December 2014. In the November 2014 exams, MUFY students at Sunway College Kuala Lumpur were the world’s top in 16 out of 22 MUFY subjects with 124 students being eligible for Monash University scholarships. Lee Loong Kuan achieved the highest overall score of 96.5%, out-performing students at all other MUFY programme providers worldwide.

In her valedictorian speech, Priyanka Subramaniam summed up her MUFY experience at Sunway, “MUFY has offered us more than just an education. The things that one has learnt and obtained from this amazing journey are far beyond expectations. From the MUFY Games we learnt about sportsmanship and teamwork. From the Sharity Carnival we learnt that the simple pleasures of life can always come from giving rather than receiving. From the Talent Quest, many learnt to showcase their talents and tap their untapped potential. But most importantly was what we learnt on a day to day basis which were life lessons such as constantly being on our toes, leadership qualities, perseverance, strength and so much more.”

MUFY at Sunway College is the largest and most established provider among all providers in Australia, China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Having approximately 1,000 students enrolled in the MUFY programme, Sunway is possibly one of the largest university foundation programmes in the country. Truly international in its scope of curriculum and recognition, MUFY’s enrolment has students coming from over 40 countries including Germany, Egypt, Philippines, USA, Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Singapore and Indonesia.

Taking the opportunity to congratulate the graduating students, Lee Thye Cheong, Director of MUFY also advised graduates to learn not just from textbooks, lectures and tutorials but also from the bitter and sweet experiences, challenging situations, friends and mistakes.

In his speech he reminded the graduates to “Take a moment to consider your journey ahead. Without doubt, you have accomplished a considerable amount of learning in MUFY. But it doesn’t stop here. Neither does the learning stop when you graduate from university. In fact, Monash University’s motto is “I am still learning”. This highlights the importance of cultivating a deep curiosity and desire to learn. MUFY has empowered you with the capabilities to be enquiring lifelong learners. Do not lose the desire to learn.”

Acknowledging the hard work and dedication of his academic colleagues, Lee thanked the lecturers on their commitment and belief in their students.

Priyanka also paid tribute to the lecturers, acknowledging them as being the real heroes of the night’s graduation as the beloved lecturers were the inspiration for her and her peers to succeed academically and personally. “Thank you for imparting life lessons to us, for telling us what we’re good at, and for encouraging us to be better”, she said.
