Sunway TES offers home grown programmes

Poised to lead Asia Pacific in professional accountancy training.

Malaysia’s leading accounting school, Sunway TES Centre for Accountancy Excellence today launched its own home-grown Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Professional Accounting programmes as its unique value propositions befitting its status as the Centre for Accountancy Excellence (CAE) appointed by the Government last year. The launch was officiated by Y.B. Datuk Mary Yap, Deputy Education Minister 1, Malaysia.

In her speech, Datuk Yap said the programmes will give students the flexibility in their paths in professional accounting, allowing them to a fast track accountancy degree or professional qualification such as ACCA and ICAEW ACA. This indirectly will position Sunway TES Centre for Accountancy Excellence as taking the lead in Asia Pacific region to promote excellence in accountancy training.

Students will also have the option to progress to the ACCA or ICAEW ACA programmes with exemptions by the two accounting bodies.
Chief Executive Officer, Education and Healthcare Division of Sunway Group, Lee Weng Keng said in his speech that in designing the programmes, Sunway TES incorporates training in fundamental business practices, especially in the core areas of accounting and finance.

“In delivery, our team of experienced and dedicated teachers who have excellent track records of producing world prize winners in the ACCA and ICAEW examinations will ensure that effective teaching and learning strategies are employed to guide the students successfully through this new and exciting pathway to an eventual professional qualification,” said Lee.

According to Lee, Sunway TES has an enrolment of some 4,000 accounting students and a total of 138 of them have won awards and world prizes.

Sunway TES Centre for Accountancy Excellence offers four intakes a year for the Diploma programme, which are in January, April, July and September, and two intakes a year for the Advanced Diploma, which in July and January.

Among those present at the launch were Teo Ee Sing, Executive Director of Sunway TES Centre for Accountancy Excellence and Sunway College, who gave a brief preview on the Diploma and Advanced Diploma programmes.

Last November, Sunway TES was awarded the Centre for Accountancy Excellence by the Government via the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU). Sunway TES is expected to nurture 5,500 graduates between now and year 2020. Teo Ee Sing said “We are expected to train about 800 students each year to achieve the target within seven years.”

The selection through PEMANDU under EPP 17, is aimed at transforming Malaysia as the leading Accountancy hub in the Asia Pacific region by 2020. This is part of the government’s ongoing Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) projects. Sunway TES with strategic partners will now champion accountancy programmes at the professional level on a national stage.

This collaboration is the first public-private partnership of its kind with specific focus in accountancy and financial programmes, supporting the government’s aim of establishing Malaysia as an education hub by providing the needed skilled talent to achieve the goals of ETP and the larger aims of Vision 2020.
