Sunway College AUSMAT Students Raise Funds for Charity

The Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) programme at Sunway College once again managed to raise funds for several charity organisations through its annual I Care Day event. Through the sales of food, handicraft, beauty services such as nail painting and henna tattoo, and games on campus, students managed to raise a total of RM15,000.

At a small ceremony, representatives from two charity organisations were on hand to receive the contributions. Rozana Hassan and Wivien Tan of the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia and Dr Chia Chee Ming of Elshaddai Refugee Learning Centre received a mock cheque for RM3,000 each. RM5,000 will be channelled to Yayasan Chow Kit while RM3,000 will go towards setting up a mini library at Taman Permata in Dengkil, Selangor while the balance of the collection has been set aside for AUSMAT students and lecturers who plan to visit a centre catering to children with autism and other learning disabilities.

Student Talks His Way to a Full Tuition Fee Waiver from Sunway College in Public Speaking Competition

Highlighting determination and taking risks as common traits of all successful people were the main points made by sixteen year old Ahmad Irfan Jawahar Ali who emerged as Champion in the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Malaysia English Language Event: Public Speaking Competition 2015 held at Sunway College.

Math Wizards of the Sunway College A-Level Math & Logic National Challenge 2015

In the recent Cambridge GCE A-Levels Math and Logic Challenge 2015, National Level by Sunway College, 456 participants from secondary schools in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Penang, Perak, Kedah, Johor and Malacca were tested on their ability to think mathematically and laterally.

JCF Community Scholars Get-Together

The Sunway Education Group welcomed a new batch of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) Community Scholars at a recent gathering at Sunway University. The gathering of new, existing and graduated scholars was targeted to help the new community scholars in getting to know each other. The annual get-together serves as an opportunity for seniors to share and encourage the juniors in their educational journey at Sunway University.

In her welcome speech, Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group and Sunway University, citing higher education as the hope for a better and brighter future said ”There are many advantages that comes with a good education, a clear pattern normally emerges. Individuals who pursue higher education normally experience greater financial and employment security, more opportunities to connect with, and contribute to their community, culminating in greater satisfaction with life.”

The New Sunway College Student Council

The Sunway College Student Action Team in a modest ceremony, was unveiled rebranded as the new Sunway College Student Council (SCC). The ceremony also introduced the new SCC representatives.

“Your role will have its advantages, most importantly it will prepare you and help hone valuable people skills that will put you in good stead for life. The Student Council is a platform for student participation integral to the development of staff-student relations. Here, you will prove yourselves to be a valued source to the management, lecturers and students. It is good training as you will be dealing with not only the college management, but with your peers where you will represent them and, I trust that you will represent them to the best of your abilities,” said Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group and Sunway University in her address.

Sunway Model United Nations Innaugural Conference

Each new day brings its problems, challenges and issues. Our youth today hold the responsibility to envision and shape our world for a better tomorrow.

With the belief and certainty that our youth can make a difference, Sunway recently played host to more than 200 delegates from 2 universities, 9 colleges and 10 schools around Malaysia at the inaugural Sunway Model United Nations (SUNMUN) conference. The conference themed ‘Defying Disaster’ was the first organised completely by students of the Sunway Education Group.

Sunway University Collaborates with World Vision on Together for Every Child Campaign

In support of World Vision’s target to raise RM3 million which will impact more than 47,000 lives, Sunway University’s International Office and Sunway International Student Ambassadors (SISA) recently launched ‘Together for Every Child Campaign’ Clean Water Project at the university.

The event saw notable representatives from Sunway University and World Vision launching the project with a unique water filtering ceremony. Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway University and Sunway Education Group, Prof Graeme Wilkinson, Vice Chancellor of Sunway University, Lim Shui Chin, International Office Director of Sunway Education Group, and Angelo Estella SISA President together with World Vision Malaysia Ambassador Francissca Peter and Communications Officer Tan Shu Yi poured jugs of dirty water into a filter designed and created by Dr Sagathevan K, Sunway University’s Head of Science and Engineering Resources.
