Sunway - Triple Crown of Business Excellence

Sunway swept 3 awards at the recently concluded Sin Chew Business Excellence Award 2015. Sunway Education Group won the Product and Service Excellence Award and the CSR Excellence Award. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, AO, Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Sin Chew Business Excellence Award serves to recognise, award and motivate some of Malaysia’s most trusted and prestigious SMEs and businesses to showcase and spearhead Malaysian brands to the global market. Running for the third time, this award ceremony with the theme of “innovation, transformation, sustainability” aims to encourage the sharing of success stories and models of winning businesses for more enterprises to learn and emulate.

The award ceremony dinner which was concluded on 6 November 2015 saw a total of 145 outstanding and exceptional winners. “Sin Chew Media Corporation aspires to work closely with Chinese businesses in Malaysia in creating more sterling results, and the Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards ceremony is yet another initiative geared towards this goal,” said Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King, Executive Chairman of Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad.

The night saw Finance Minister II Dato’ Seri Haji Ahmad Husni bin Mohamad Hanadzlah delivering a welcome speech in fluent Mandarin and presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Tan Sri Cheah.

Tan Sri Cheah was voted unanimously by a panel of professional and industry leaders for being a "highly recognised and greatly respected leader with a long track record of personal and organisational milestone achievements, who has made "significant contributions to the community, the industry and the country." Tan Sri Cheah has also demonstrated "high integrity, excellent ethical leadership and immaculate reputation," in addition to his outstanding contributions to Sunway Group's "financial credibility, performance and sustainability over the past decades."

“Developing a sustainable community by devoting myself to quality education have been the most important, exciting and rewarding journey to me. I hope my passion and dedication towards education can inspire more businesses to contribute their wealth and effort in nurturing our future generations,” said Tan Sri Cheah, adding that the Sunway Education Group through the not-for-profit social enterprise Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has been disbursing a total of more than RM210 million worth of scholarships to over 23,000 deserving students.

The Product and Service Excellence Award was received by Prof Graeme Wilkiinson, Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University on behalf of Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway University and Sunway Education Group. Dr Lee Weng Keng, Chief Executive Officer of Education and Healthcare Division of Sunway Group received the CSR Excellence Award.

These awards are segments of many successful achievements and hopefully more upcoming accolades to be celebrated by the Sunway Education Group. They are testimonies to a thriving education group where recently Sunway University achieved four stars in QS Ratings while Sunway College achieved six stars in MyQuest rating.
