Hello! New Faces!

“It was fun!” chorused Ambrose, Beatrice, Calvin, Sze Yuan and Shin Loong, A-level Science students who became friends at Sunway College’s pre-university programmes orientation. The campus was filled with laughter and new faces as a new cohort of students joined Sunway College. Students of the 5 pre-university programmes, CIMP (Canadian International Matriculation Programme), Foundation in Arts (FIA), MUFY (Monash University Foundation Year), A-Level and Australian Matriculation Programme (AUSMAT), started off their college experience with orientation.

“Today is a new chapter. Joining pre-U, you are moving closer to pursuing a university degree, to your career and other things in life. I wish you the very best for your future, do well, succeed and move on. I hope to see you again at your graduation,” said Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director of Sunway Education Group in her warm welcome to the students.

The orientation was an ice-breaking session which included various challenges and games to help introduce new comers to their fellow students, courses and the campus. One of the games, the Instagram Challenge lasted three days. Students were required to take a picture of themselves participating in the various activities and post them up on Instagram to win prizes worth up to RM300. The Freeze Frame Challenge was another game that kicked the orientation up a notch. New students were arranged into groups to recreate a famous movie or TV series scene by involving all the group members and utilising all the props within a given box. The recreated scenes were then taken and projected on screen.

The famous scene from Titanic won the challenge with the highest sms (short message service) votes together with recreated scenes from Alice in the Wonderland, Frozen, Lilo & Stitch and Twilight. Other notable creative scenes recreated included Avengers, Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), King Kong, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Family Guy and World War Z.

The orientation was a good platform for students to bond together and blend into their new environment. Zoelie and Eevon who are enrolled in MUFY immediately clicked and became friends. Zoelie will be working on getting good results to secure her university application, for either a Business or Psychology degree at Monash. Eevon, a straight As (SPM) student is pursuing Science and aiming for the Pharmacy 2+2 programme at Monash.

Sze Yuan from A-Level and Yi Shern from MUFY chose Sunway College for the location while for Farhana from AUSMAT and Cynthia from FIA, both their mothers’ decision played a big part. Sunway College’s reputation is a major key factor, attracting students like Ambrose and Beatrice from East Malaysia. Vietnamese student Tran Do Phuong Vy is pursuing CIMP based on her friend’s recommendation.

Sunway’s Pre-university studies prepare students for university application. What makes Sunway pre-university programmes unique is its detailed attention focusing on students’ academic excellence through professional teaching and personal development through extracurricular activities. Students’ success stories in fields of studies like medicine, science, engineering, accounting, business and arts are testimonies of the high degree of pastoral care and academic guidance at Sunway.
