Sunway’s 2nd Pre-University Conference, education beyond the classroom

Back for the second time, Sunway Education Group’s 2nd Pre-University Conference was bigger and better. The conference themed “Learning within and beyond the classroom,” saw the participation of many internal as well as external institutions in conjunction with Sunway’s Silver Jubilee celebration.

Professor Dr. Morshidi Sirat, Deputy Director-General, Department of Higher Education (Public Sector) Ministry of Higher Education presented the keynote address and officiated the conference while the plenary address was presented by Prof. Dr. Moses Samuel, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Malaya.

The Conference aimed to create a forum for educators, researchers, technologists and university students to share their knowledge and expertise in teaching and learning in higher education, facilitate discussions on major issues, new developments and trends in higher education including critical success factors and innovative practices. The forum also encouraged networking opportunities for professional development and education.

The 2nd Pre-University Conference received an overwhelming response and participation from Sunway College Kuala Lumpur, Sunway College Johor Bahru, Sunway College Ipoh, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), KDU, KBU, Sunway University and Wesley Methodist School. A total of 17 papers were presented to 222 participants. The papers presented were in line with the sub-themes which are (i) current developments in education, (ii) methodologies in teaching and learning and (iii) leadership and management in education.

Cheng Mien Wee, Chairperson of the Organising Committee said, “This Pre-university Conference exemplifies the passion and commitment of academics in the Sunway Education Group in prioritising professional development, promoting learning, and sharing best practices in education. The planning for this Conference began 18 months earlier, and the work of bringing together relevant research projects was exciting and rewarding. The organisers look forward to the involvement of international participants for the 3rd Pre-university Conference.”

The 1st Pre-University Conference themed “Innovative Thoughts, Invigorating Teaching’ was held in 2009.
